Eli's Bread

Eli's Bread

However You Slice It...

Eli’s Bread has been considered the best for over 30 years. In the 1980s, Eli Zabar conceived of a platonic ideal of the loaves he was looking for—one with lots of crust, a sour taste like a Jewish corn rye, and a tight texture. An odyssey began as Eli worked to understand what made a great loaf, and then worked even harder to learn to make them himself. Today, Eli’s Bread is still made using the same original recipes adored all over the world.

What is a Ficelle?

A ficelle is a type of French bread that is long and thin. Essentially like a thick bread stick. However, it is still moist and spongy inside the crust. This type of bread loaf is about half the size of your typical French baguette that you see sold. A ficelle can be as long as a standard baguette, but it is thinner and typically shorter than a baguette. Which also makes it lighter than a baguetter, too.

A ficelle is generally made of white wheat flour and can be sliced and served as a dipping bread or as a base for appetizers. Typically, a piece of ficelle is eaten in one sitting and not saved for later or multiple uses. Ficelles are commonly found in bakeries and cafes. If you are looking to purchase ficelles in bulk, then please reach out to us today for more about wholesale ordering.
